In order to fill a need I saw in the genealogy community, I created GeneaJobs.com. There, I collect and post job and volunteer positions related to genealogy research, data compilation, software development and many other specialties.
I have been researching my own family history for about three years, but I have always been interested in it. As a child, I spent a lot of time trying to chart out my large family and learn more about my grandparents. Soon after I started research on my family, I realized that I had found my vocation.

I enrolled at the National Institute of Genealogical Studies, where I still take classes. Currently, I am working on my Board for Certifications of Genealogists? portfolio, with the goal of becoming a Certified Genealogist. The main focus of my blog, Geneapprentice, is my experience with my classes and preparing my portfolio, as well as genealogy news and advocacy opportunities.
Recently, I was searching for employment opportunities in genealogy, and there did not seem to be a centralized database of genealogy job or volunteer positions. I asked my followers on Twitter whether there was such a site and one of them, Jenna of Desperately Seeking Surnames, suggested that I start one. So I did. GeneaJobs launched on January 20, 2012.
So far, there seems to be a great deal of interest in the site, and I have been able to affiliate with some major job search sites. I hope to make GeneaJobs self-sustaining through the affiliate links on the site. I have been promoting the site via Facebook and Twitter.

The postings on the site come from a variety of sources. Sites such as Career Builder and LinkedIn allow me to post links to relevant jobs. GeneaJobs is also an affiliate of Genealogy Freelancers, which means that I can post affiliate links to projects posted there by potential clients. Below those posts are automatic affiliate feeds from Monster and Indeed showing relevant jobs at those sites. In the coming months, I hope to see the number of user-submitted posts grow steadily, adding to the posts gathered from job search sites.
The next step is to gather even more sources of job postings, by affiliating with more websites and by promoting the site to employers and genealogy societies. I hope that GeneaJobs can grow to a point where it is the most convenient way for those with an interest in family history to find jobs and volunteer opportunities.
