According to our partner, the Savannah Morning News, Jeff Northway turned in his letter of resignation Thursday.
Springfield leaders recently discovered Northway was a convicted felon.
According to the Savannah Morning News, Northway was convicted of theft by receiving and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in Texas in 1983, and another felony in 1989 for unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Ambrose is serving as Mayor.
