Here?s How Sneaky Google Maps is Teasing Apple
With Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) chief executive Tim Cook having been forced on Friday to release an apology about the new iOS 6 maps app, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) decided it was a good day to rub it in further. The search company announced the addition of high-resolution imagery, including a new 45-degree view, and improved data to its own mapping service.
?Our quest to create the most comprehensive and accurate map of the world is ongoing, but we?re happy to take a pause and share some impressive progress that our?Google Maps?and?Earth imagery teams have recently made,? Google geo data specialist Bernd Steinert said in a blog post on Friday. ?We?ve refreshed the high resolution?aerial and satellite imagery for many places around the world, and released some new 45 degree imagery as well.?

Both the Google Maps and Google Earth apps now feature 17 cities and 112 countries with high-resolution aerial and satellite imagery. In addition, 51 cities can now be viewed in a 45-degree mode. That includes 37 cities in the U.S. and 14 international locations. While the images cannot be rendered in three dimensions, unlike Apple?s Flyover feature, the new angle allows for a clearer view.
In his publicly issued apology on Friday, Cook acknowledged the user frustration of the last few days and recommended a variety of rival applications that customers could use as Apple worked on improving its software. The web version of Google and Nokia (NYSE:NOK) maps, as well the Microsoft?s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Bing app, were part of the list of suggestions.

Canada is one nation but these days it looks like two commercial real estate markets.
There is the west where demand continues to soar, aided but a booming resource market, and then there is the east, which continues to tread water as it attempts to keep a lid on vacancies.
?It really is black and white,? said Ross Moore, national research director at CB Richard Ellis Canada, which will release its third quarter results next week?showing a stark contrast between everything west of Ontario and the rest of the nation.
On the key measure of the amount of space absorbed by businesses in the third quarter ? considered the ultimate barometer of demand ? the west wins handily.
In the third quarter the west absorbed 621,275 square feet of space while the east was a negative 154,872. Year to date about 3.2 million square feet of demand have been absorbed out west compared to about 682,000 in the east.
The numbers are mirrored in the industrial space segment of the market. In the third quarter western Canada absorbed almost 4.5 million square feet while the east was negative 400,000. Year to date, the west has absorbed 8 million square feet of industrial space to the 2.7 million to the east.
?It?s all about western Canada. You take western Canada out and we would be going backwards,? said Mr. Moore.
He said despite the gains made out west it was probably a disappointing quarter for the overall Canadian real estate sector. ?I think the message we have is we probably borrowed from the future a bit last year,? said Mr. Moore.
The top downtown office markets in the country were Waterloo, Edmonton and Montreal based on the absorption of space. Calgary was the top suburban market, and without it the entire country would have seen negative absorption in the third quarter of the year.
For the year Toronto is the only city in the country with negative overall office absorption but Mr. Moore thinks the Greater Toronto Area might make it to a flat year by the end of 2012.
?I think the GTA had a fantastic 2011,? said Mr. Moore, adding many of those businesses which might have signed leases in 2012 were already committed to contracts a year earlier.
While Montreal?s downtown office market showed strength in the third quarter, it?s too early to tell whether the impact of having a separatist party in power in Quebec will change that.
?Our Montreal office has said they have noticed that things have come off a little bit but there is a wait and figuring out what this government really means,? said Mr. Moore.
Investment activity may finally be slowing. The $14.3-billion in transaction in the first two quarters of 2012 was the best showing for a half year ever and 27% ahead of 2011. ?We won?t Error: Break shortcode syntax invalid, 2007 was an incredible year and we?ve come off a bit,? he said.

Referral marketing on the internet is incredibly easy. This is especially true if you have a blog or high content website that is dishing out quality information each and everyday. People will gladly revisit your website and recommend your site or blog to their friends and colleagues - simply because your information is so good.
If you want to get more referrals to your website sales page or opt-in page, the key is valuable information. Nobody wants to recommend a site to someone whose content and information (or product) isn?t very good. So if you want to get more new referrals, focus on quality information, and good customer service.
Yes, I said it. GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Apparently this is a forgotten art in the world of online business. Many vendors who hide behind their computer screen aren?t very interested in helping their customers achieve a goal or solve a problem. They?re just in it for the money, and in it to remain elusive as they receive more and more sales.
But you can?t run a business this way. 80% of your total business revenue will come from sales on the backend (selling to existing customers). And if you?re not being attentive and helping your customer to be more efficient with what they want to do, they will find somebody else to ask their questions to, and eventually, your competitors will scoop your customers right out from under you.
I pride myself on good customer service. Sometimes refunds are a must, but that shouldn?t stop you from continuing on and going out to get more sales. Here?s a true story: In the past, I used to get a ton of sales, and then when 1 refund out of 30 sales came in, I would rearrange EVERYTHING simply because of that 1 refund.
I would change the price, tweak my sales letter, add more ?bells and whistles? to the page, and etc. And I did this because I was young and didn?t realize the reality of refunds in my business. But now that I know better, I don?t let refunds faze me. I keep going, keep getting more sales, and keep earning the money that I know I deserve to make.
So how does all of this tie in with referrals? It?s simple. You can wind up getting a referral from someone who asks for a refund from you!
I used to be an Ebay Powerseller and Top Rated Seller. I remember one time I received a refund request from a customer and in return, I gave her the refund and showered her with 3 free bonuses just for trying out some of my products. The next day she emailed me with great gratitude and told me that I was the best Ebay seller that she has ever done business with. Then she stated that she was going to tell her friends about me.
I was delighted by this gesture.
I know how to take care of my customers, and you should learn how to take care of your?s also. When your customers have a problem, be there to help them out. When your customers ask for recommendations, be sure to help them out. Anything that you can do to make your customers happy, do it.
Take these referral and refund tips and use them to have alot of success in your internet business. Keep these online marketing gems in mind the next time you encounter a refund, or are looking to spur a referral.

Hi all,
So I am desperate for some advice here. My hubby and I have been together about 4 years and married in Jan. About 3 weeks later he had to leave for a job ( he is in film) and we both agreed to the sacrifice because it was a great opportunity for him, and good for us financially. The job was supposed to be 6 months, and due to schedules, our childs school sched, etc we only saw eachother like 4 times, and 6 months became almost 8. When he first left we missed eachother like crazy, but toward the end of the job when he got home it was almost awkward. We sat down to talk a few weeks ago and he says to me "he dosent feel like he loves me any more". I was dumbfounded. We just got married!!!
He says he felt I neglected the house (nothings wrong with it, and it is very clean) and accuses me of ruining his credit by not sending him the bills every day (yet he has not actually checked his score-)hes just projecting fear for some reason. He is totally disconnected from me, and does not understand why. I feel that we disconnected a bit due to distance, etc. Texting is not enough to sustain a marriage, but I love him and think we just need to spend time together, and try to remember how we felt in Jan. I am starting to wonder if he could be depressed. He has all the symptoms of it, but if I bring it up he will probably not believe me. I dont know what to do. Any advice is truly appreciated. This is eating me up inside.. i

Oktoberfest celebrations like 'Gay Sunday' this past weekend are helping gays and lesbians boost their visibility at a time when Germany is debating gay marriage.

There?s a simple rule at Munich?s world-famous Oktoberfest: It?s all about the fun. Politics isn?t supposed to play a role at all in the 16-day event, which annually attracts more than 5 million visitors and floods Munich with parties, parties, and more parties.
But at Oktoberfest celebrations like ?Gay Sunday? ? one of several events dedicated to gays and lesbians that now draw thousands of revelers ? politics has inevitably seeped into the mix. At a time when gay Germans are fighting hard for the right to marry, activists quietly say that their increasingly high visibility at Oktoberfest ? perhaps the most quintessentially German cultural event ? is forcing others to take notice.
Currently, permanent partnerships are allowed under the law, though gay couples can only be in registered partnerships that don?t enjoy the same benefits, such as tax savings, as do marriages. As the matter winds through the courts, it has deeply split Germany?s pro-business and center-right ruling coalition.
The classically liberal Free Democratic Party ? which has many prominent gay members, including Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle ? has pushed hard for gays? full equality. But the more socially conservative Christian Democratic Union and its sister party in Bavaria, the Christian Social Union, haven?t been so enthusiastic.
Chancellor Angela Merkel, a Christian Democrat, has been particularly reticent, saying in August that ?it would be good at this point to wait for the court's decision,? on the tax issue.
Some gay rights activists believe more visibility may be key to changing the political climate in their favor. While the issue isn?t as polarizing as in the United States, religious and social conservatives, particularly in Bavaria, have expressed alarm at German proposals to make gay marriage legal, as it already is in eight European countries.??
?No one would want to see Oktoberfest become officially political, but just the fact that gays and lesbians can go there in lederhosen, can hold hands and kiss, does have political meaning,? says Thomas Niederb?hl, a longtime Munich city council member and a member of the local Pink List gay rights party. ?We are playing more of a role in German society. By being at Oktoberfest, people recognize that we are no longer some small group on the fringes of everyday life.?
Though explicit talk of gay rights are scrupulously avoided during the so-called Pink Oktoberfest, politicians, including Munich?s powerful center-left mayor Christian Ude, make high-profile appearances there. For years Mr. Ude has been appearing briefly conducting the orchestra playing traditional Bavarian tunes. Mr. Niederb?hl, well known in Bavarian political circles, is another figure who shows up.
Probably the most popular celebrations during Pink Oktoberfest, Gay Sunday has its roots in the 1970s with a gay organization known as the Munich Lions Club, which organized a meet-up during Oktoberfest?s first Sunday at the Br?urosl tent ? supposedly named after the daughter of a beer firm founder.
As gay rights gained steam in the late 1980s and into the 1990s, their Sunday meeting became a destination in itself.
?These days you can barely find room in the tent,? said Lion?s Club board member Dieter Weissenborn, who helps run a smaller event on a tent balcony for only Lion?s Club supporters.
For Schr?der, Gay Sunday means a break from the dreariness of daily work back home. But, he said, it also shows how gays are becoming more involved in some of Germany?s most famous traditions.
?This is just a great time, but in another way I?ve very proud to say that I can openly be here with him,? Schr?der said pointing to his partner.

Pets And Wildlife
Many people think that house pets and wildlife will get on fine but that is not the case. In fact it is the complete opposite and it is because of this that you should take care when looking after wildlife if you or a neighbour has any pets. Cats and dogs are terrible when it comes to the wildlife in your garden as they are likely to hunt these animals for food. It is their natural instinct to hunt birds and small rodents but obviously this is not good for wildlife.
For cats there are ways that you can prevent them hunting birds or make them bad at it. When hunting, a cat will try and be as quiet as possible but to stop this you can fit a bell to your cat's collar. This will warn potential victims that the cat is coming giving them time to get away. Other devices can stop your cat from pouncing on a poor little animal, for example a cat bib can stop your cat from lashing it as it blocks the cat just as it is about to strike. These are very affective and can save a birds life. An obvious thing that you can do is making sure that you cat is well fed as this can prevent the cat from wanting to go hunting for more food.
When placing bird tables you need to make sure that they are away from hidden corners. The reason for this is that if there are no hidden corners there are no cats jumping out from hidden places. In addition to this you need to make sure all bird feeders are high up. The higher the bird feeder the less likely a cat is going to strike. With bird feeders you can get cages that go over the bird feeders so that potential predators cannot physically get at the bird. In addition to this you should plant spikey and uncomfortable bushes around the base of a bird table or bird feeder so that a cat will not want to go underneath one. Another thing that you can do is keep your cat indoors at night as this is the time that they are likely to go hunting.
To stop a dog from killing wildlife it is all about training your dog. One of the easiest ways to do this is with an electric collar. These are not harmful but they do teach your dog what they can and cannot do. When using the collar make sure that you follow the instructions and do not over use the collar. When walking the dog or it is out in the garden wait for it to go and attack the bird or other wildlife animal. Then before then dog gets to the animal press the button to release a short shock to the dog. This will let the dog know that they have done something wrong and after a few weeks of this they will have learnt their lesson. If this does not work although it should it is recommended that you get a professional dog trainer to teach your dog what's right and what's wrong. If you do not want to use a collar you should wait for your dog to chase something and then shout a short sharp "NO!" and then command the dog returns to your side; you can use a whistle if this fails. Once the dog returns to your side reward the dog for coming back and the dog will learn what to do.
With dogs you can follow the same path that you have done with cats. Adding a bell to their collar will alarm the little animal that a predator is coming and this will prevent harm. As well as this you need to make sure that your dog is getting enough exercise so that it will not want to chase animals around. Then like cats it is important to make sure your dog is properly fed but in addition to this you should distact your dog with bones and chews that will stop them hunting.
It is extremely important that you do this because if pets keep on hunting down wildlife numbers will continue to decrease. This needs to be stopped as numbers are already dangerously low.

US helps investigation of Honduran lawyer's death
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) ? The U.S. embassy is helping Honduran authorities investigate the murder of a prominent human rights lawyer who had represented agrarian groups against a multi-national palm-oil company and other landowners, a U.S. official said Monday.
The embassy offered a U.S. law enforcement adviser already embedded with a specially vetted unit of Honduran police to look into the assassination of Antonio Trejo Cabrera, 41, who was ambushed by gunmen early Sunday after attending a wedding in the capital city of Tegucigalpa.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because he was not authorized to give details.
Trejo's family was visibly upset at authorities, including an American woman who accompanied them to question the family after Trejo's memorial on Monday. The woman wouldn't identify herself, adding, "This is an active police investigation and this is the only thing I am going to say."
His family said he had reported many threats and had asked for government protection.
"Nobody cared," said his brother, Rigoberto Trejo, 35.
"We asked the police and the prosecutor's office for protection and they never responded," added Enrique Flores Lanza, secretary of the board of directors for the Honduran Bar Association.
Trejo, who was shot six times, was a lawyer for three peasant cooperatives in the Bajo Aguan, a fertile farming area plagued by violent conflicts between agrarian organizations and land owners. The most prominent is Dinant Corporation, owned by billionaire Miguel Facusse, one of Honduras' richest men. Thousands of once-landless workers hold about 12,000 acres (5,000 hectares) of plantations they seized from Dinant.
Before his death, Trejo had publicly said that if he was killed, Facusse would be responsible.
Roger Pineda, Dinant's executive director, denied that Facusse was behind Trejo's killing, saying he "regretted that the lawyer said in public on repeated occasions that Don Miguel (Facusse) would be responsible for his death."
"Even though we had differences with him, we mourn his death," said Pineda on Sunday.
Honduras, considered to be one of the world's most dangerous countries, is plagued by assassinations of journalists, lawyers and public officials, very few of which are ever prosecuted. No arrests have been made in Trejo's killing.
More than 60 people, most of them farmers, some of them Facusse employees, have been killed over the past three years in the conflict over the Bajo Aguan Valley, according to activists, police and Facusse's company.
Trejo had recently helped farmers gain legal rights to several plantations.
Trejo had also helped prepare motions declaring unconstitutional a proposal between the Honduran government and a U.S. company, MGK Group, to build three privately run cities with their own police, laws and tax systems.
Just hours before his murder, Trejo had participated in a televised debate in which he accused congressional leaders of using the private city projects to raise campaign funds.
MGK director Michael Strong said the company is "horrified" by Trejo's killing.
"We believe that Antonio Trejo, had he lived long enough to get to know us, would have concluded that our approach is 100 percent beneficial to Honduras and Hondurans. We are saddened for his family and understand what a tragedy this is for trust and goodwill in Honduras," Strong said in a statement to The Associated Press.
Trejo was to travel to Washington in October to participate in hearings on the Bajo Aguan situation at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, said Annie Bird, co-director of Rights Action.
"Authorities need to act swiftly to bring to justice those responsible for Trejo's murder, and send a clear message that attacks on human rights defenders will be dealt with firmly," said Jos? Miguel Vivanco, Americas director at Human Rights Watch.

Verizon Wireless said Monday that it won't prevent its version of the iPhone 5 from being used on AT&T's network.
The Verizon version of the iPhone 5, which went on sale Friday, came with an unexpected feature: it works on the network of AT&T and many other phone companies, as well as on Verizon's.
It's the first time Verizon, the country's largest cellphone company, has sold a phone that works on competing U.S. networks with no complicated hacking, or "unlocking," procedures.
Last year, the first shipments of the Sprint iPhone 4S were unlocked and worked on AT&T, but Sprint later issued software updates that turned off that capability.
Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Brenda Raney said Monday that Verizon does not plan to relock the iPhone 5.
The feature may mean little initially to most buyers, since they sign up for two years of Verizon service when buying the phone. But it does give them the option to switch carriers when the contract expires, or they can sell the phone to someone who plans to use it on a competing network. They also have the option of breaking the contract, paying an early termination fee, and signing up for cheaper service ??the Verizon iPhone 5 even works on prepaid service plans.
Verizon and Sprint do "unlock" other phones on request, but only for use on non-U.S. networks. They do so to let travelers save money by using local SIM cards and accounts when overseas.
Even unlocked, Verizon iPhones are tied to Verizon's network: it's the only one that can provide them with "4G LTE" data speeds. The Verizon iPhone 5 can access AT&T's non-LTE "4G" network, which has slightly lower speeds.
T-Mobile USA, the country's fourth-largest phone company, has a network that's compatible with the Verizon iPhone 5 for voice calls and low-speed data. It's revamping the network in a way that will make it compatible with the iPhone 5 for high-speed data as well, and last week started actively marketing to iPhone 4 owners.
Sprint Nextel said Monday that its iPhone 5s are locked. Customers in good standing for at least three months can ask to have them unlocked for international use only. AT&T unlocks phones once they're out of contract.

European lawmakers to question regulators over Libor
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Some of the world's top financial regulators will answer questions in the European Parliament on Monday about market manipulation such as the rigging of benchmark interest rate Libor.
The scandal over fixing the rate used as a reference for financial transactions worth more than $350 trillion globally has led to a fine for Britain's Barclays
Michel Barnier, the European commissioner in charge of regulation, and Joaquin Almunia, the EU's antitrust chief, will face questions from the parliament's influential economic and monetary affairs committee from 9.00 a.m. EDT on Monday.
Gary Gensler, the chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, will testify by videoconference. Masamichi Kono, chairman of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions will also attend.
Barnier has raised the possibility that EU regulators could take over supervising benchmarks such as Libor, breaking with the current system where banks themselves supervise the London-based rate and its continental European equivalent Euribor.
He has already outlined a proposal for criminal penalties for those who rig an index such as the London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor), but new rules are not set to take effect until 2015.
"We want to find out how they intend to ensure that the criminal sanctions are sufficient to discourage the manipulation of such indexes," said Sven Giegold, a German member of the European Parliament.
"We want more," he said. "We want to go beyond the limited scope of the Commission's proposal."
Almunia, the European Commissioner leading the antitrust probe, has added to the pressure for reforms to the way benchmark rates are set with his probes into suspected rigging of Libor, Euribor and the Tokyo-baser rate Tibor.
Any banks found guilty of breaching EU antitrust rules could face fines of up to 10 percent of their global revenues. Sources have told Reuters that several lenders are providing information to Almunia's officials in the hope of securing lower penalties.
The Commission has not identified the banks, but sources familiar with the matter have said Deutsche Bank
Barnier, who oversees European market regulation, is examining how such indexes are compiled.
His concerns are shared by the European Central Bank, which is privately pushing for a rethink on Euribor too, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Libor rates are compiled from estimates by large banks of how much they believe they have to pay to borrow from each other.
But support is growing for changing the calculation to actual lending rates instead of the current system, with regulators worried that the existing set-up allows too much discretion.
Martin Wheatley, Managing Director of UK watchdog, the Financial Services Authority, will announce his recommendations for reforming Libor supervision and governance on Friday.

Grand Theft Auto IV?is a sandbox-style action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles in Europe, North America and Oceania, on 29 April 2008, and in Japan on 30 October 2008. A major commercial and critical success, it broke industry records with sales of around 3.7 million units on its first day of release and grossing more than $500 million in revenue in the first week, selling an estimated 6 million units worldwide. As of 9 June 2010, the game had sold over 17 million copies. It is the all-time highest-scoring game on three professional critic review-aggregating websites: TopTenReviews, GameRatio and GameTab. It is also the highest rated current-generation game on Metacritic and MobyGames.

Iranian group MEK coming off US terror list: Unrelenting campaign pays off
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton informed Congress Friday that she would remove a controversial Iranian opposition group from the US list of terrorist organizations, drawing to a close a dogged de-listing campaign by the group and its high-profile advocates that stretches back to the Bush administration.
The de-listing of the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) was not unexpected, since Secretary Clinton was under court order to decide by Oct. 1 whether to remove the group from a list it had been on since 1997.
Clinton had said her decision would be guided in part by the group?s cooperation in relocating hundreds of its adherents from a refugee camp in Iraq, and in recent weeks the State Department had signaled that the relocation process was proceeding toward resolution.
Obama vs. Romney 101: 3 ways they differ on Iran
Under President Bill Clinton the MEK was placed on the terrorist list for the killing of six Americans in Iran in the 1970s and for a botched attack against the Iranian mission to the United Nations in 1992. Some Republican foreign-policy hawks charged the Clinton administration with listing MEK as a terrorist group in an effort to curry favor with the Iranian regime, but the group?s efforts at winning de-listing from the George W. Bush administration were unsuccessful.
The unrelenting de-listing campaign that began under Bush intensified under President Obama, with a number of prominent former officials from the Bush administration, including former Attorney General Michael Mukasey, taking up the group?s cause. Some prominent Democrats and former heavyweights from the Obama administration, including a former national security adviser, James Jones, also lent their name to the group?s cause.
The MEK began as a leftist organization opposed to the rule of the shah, and it initially supported the Iranian revolution. But many of its followers fled to Iraq after suffering under the revolution?s repression, and the group then sided with Saddam Hussein in the Iran-Iraq war ? a move that many Iranians have never forgiven.
The MEK has renounced violence and its members in the US insist that members and supporters inside Iran have been instrumental in providing useful and sometimes blockbuster information on the Iranian government?s covert activities, particularly its nuclear program.
Several members of Congress were quick to laud Clinton?s decision ? and to portray the group as transformed from a onetime opponent to a vital asset for the US in its dealings with Iran.
?The MEK long ago renounced violence, and in recent years has been actively working with US intelligence agencies to get information on activities inside Iran,? said Rep. Ted Poe (R) of Texas in a statement. ?Recently, we have seen that the real terrorists are the mullahs of Iran and the tiny tyrant in the desert, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, not the freedom fighters hoping for a democratic Iran.?
His colleague, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R) of California, bemoaned the group?s original listing as ?a misguided attempt by the Clinton administration to gain favor with the government in Tehran.? He characterized the MEK as ?Iranians who desire a secular, peaceful, and democratic government. Nothing threatens the mullah dictatorship more,? he added, ?than openness and transparency.?
Just how the MEK is viewed inside Iran remains the subject of debate. Members and some high-powered supporters echo Representative Poe?s characterization of them as ?freedom fighters,? but other Iranian opposition groups that have formed in the US in recent years insist that the group is intensely disliked in Iran and widely distrusted.
The years-long removal under UN auspices of more than 3,000 MEK members from Camp Ashraf in Iraq is almost complete, with the goal of moving the Iranian refugees to third countries.
